If you really want to experience the heart of a city, find out where its people like to go. Get past the chains and the billboard advertising and find the locals. When we travel, everyone loves to explore, but when was the last time you got out of your car and explored OKC?

This town is still a small place, but there are so many pockets of culture popping up that it’s easy to miss what’s happening outside your district. We’re not shy about our love of Uptown 23rd (we’re hoping Pump Bar goes public so we can buy stock), but how well do we really know the rest of the metro? We love to explore, but get stuck in our patterns doing the same things in the same parts of town. With this in our hearts, we decided to explore the Deep Deuce neighborhood.

For so long Deep Deuce was just that: a neighborhood. The area is adding local retailers and restaurants at such a quick pace that it is truly becoming a district. It’s easy to see why there is so much housing in the area; it’s a quick trot to the Health Sciences Center, Bricktown and has easy access to the highway. We found some great food, coffee and are only scratching the surface. We plan to go back and do some research and learn more about the history of Deep Deuce.

Moral of the story: act like tourists. Explore new parts of the city that you haven’t been to and find even more to love about this place we call home.
